The abdominal Cryotherapy belt – “Crunch Belt” is a cryotherapy device designed to promote post-operative recovery after ALL abdominal surgery. Using the benefits of ‘cold’ and ‘compression’ on damaged body tissues, abdominal “Crunch belt” is designed to reduce pain, swelling and bruising on tissues after surgery. The abdominal cryotherapy belt applies a malleable gel pack that can be positioned to the surgical area, reducing the pain and swelling. It also alleviates discomfort and in studies has shown to helps manage immediate post-op pain and reduce the use of analgesics.  In a recent study, where one group used the Cryotherapy verses a standard care, only 4 of the 30 patients using the belt required additional analgesia compared to ALL 30 0f the control group.  This is a very valuable tool for post-surgery patients as it gives individuals the ability to actively participate in their recovery process.

The abdominal belt comprises of one cold pack which is secured in place by the abdominal support belt, and a 45 cm extension belt. The cold pack should be frozen for 8 hours before use and worn for 20 minute sessions every 4 hours. After frozen the gel in the cold pack will remain malleable, allowing for a specially adapted fit for any shape of abdomen helping to ensure optimum distribution of cold treatment.
